Admissions Advice

Avid
Answered

I am a current junior, and a senior next year. I have a schedule packed with AP classes, but no 6th period.

Should I take Avid? Some of my friends are taking it, but I finally have a bit of a break and I'm not sure if avid would even benefit me.

Should I take it? Will it help me?

Yes. AVID is a good flex to have when you're actively looking for schools. All I will say is as an AVID student it is a lot of busy work in my opinion but I have learned great skills form the class.

I think that a free period would help you more. Since you are already taking a lot of AP classes, you do not need more rigor on your transcript. Giving yourself the extra time to study or relax will increase your unweighted GPA, and that will look better than AVID. Hope this helps!

Hello! While AVID does look great on your transcript, If you feel like you need that free time then absolutely leave it free. Those AP classes will already show that you are able to handle rigorous courses. From a Junior who has been taking AP and honors classes since Freshman year, I absolutely advise that you do not overwhelm yourself just because the class looks good on paper.
