Should I work on the common app essays before it opens up on August 1st? Also, what are some things that I should consider when brainstorming for essay topics?
NOW! I can not stress this enough. My senior year, I will be focusing on many AP classes and senior year aspects that I would like to enjoy. By taking care of your essay and college apps during the summer, you will have more time to revise and perfect your essay while not having to stress and rush things in the midst of your senior year. Brainstorm a topic that has genuinely impacted you, and that you can reflect on in a genuine and meaningful way. this is what i have found to work, do not write the essay the way you think colleges want you to write it, write it in a way that is personalized in your voice and personality, so that they get to know who you are!
Yes!!!!!!!! Even if you just start putting ideas down now, it's better than nothing. The sooner you get started the more time you have to think all your answers through and edit them to include everything you want in a way that presents you to be the best you can be.
So if you are applying to any ivy caliber school Or applying ED and to a lesser degree EA you should start writing as soon as the prompt is released so you have time to write get feedback and edit whether through teachers software friends etc.
But try to brainstorm a few topics you can talk about that include an anecdote and a life lesson that is not cliche.
I’d wouldn’t remcommend starting essays before the prompts are released. they may already be released but I don’t remember.
Also on August 1st the account resets so any saved essays I believe are deleted so make sure to save it on Google docs or Microsoft word if another tool.
Hope this helps and comment if you need clarification.
