My son just got into UC Davis managerial economics versus Cal poly business school. He was on the waiting list for Davis but just got in. We were set to go to calpoly because it has a good solid business school, but now that he got into UC and has seven days to decide I would love to hear your feedback and input on which school would be overall fit better for him. There are pros and cons for each. I think my son Timothy is better at small environment. He is not as mature, so I thought calpoly may be a better environment for him. He may get more attention and support? Versus Davis is a big school. I am afraid he might get lost if he doesn’t have a lot of self drive. What about in terms of internships in companies recruiting on campus do all student get internships if they try? Do tech companies recruit there? Will he be able to get classes in Davis? Does not having a business degree from a business school matter? I graduated from UMass Amherst business school and I find that was extremely helpful although I eventually got my MBA. It was just for the paper, it never really helped me in my career. I never needed it. The business school itself already helped me in my business career, they never really looked at graduate degree and many of them don’t have that and proceed to high level in companies. Greatly appreciate any thoughts and feedback you have.
Also do you think overall reputation wise Davis is UC better than calpoly or vice versa? And the connections, network in getting jobs etc. or calpoly is highly regarded even harder to get in than most UC?
Hi Meister, I hope you are fine. Answering your question, the University application itself is highly stressful to have only one choice. I recommend that your son think clearly about his future in each place in detail, maybe you like his mother are worried about him, but he knows more profoundly to find the best answer. Besides, I would recommend getting into the biggest university because it put in prove your character and make you grow. Always it is better to appoint to the best place with quality and quantity, the first option would have at UC and the second one at Calpoly. I wish this advice results helpful to your son. Best greetings!
