I’m a sophomore who had 3 bs first semester and 3 b’s again second semester despite working really hard. When I was a freshman I had all A’s. I just can’t get chem or algebra 2 and stuff and tbh I’m really concerned on how this will affect my college applications. Say I want to go into USC, I don’t know if I can because of this. Even if I get all A’s as juniors and seniors I don’t know how this will turn out because of the amount of B’s I’ve gotten. So what do u think?
USC with 6 Bs and you are only 1/2 way done with HS doesn't sound like you are on the right track.
I think it's great you have a dream school but remember that USC rejects 90% of its applicants and many of them have perfect grades and test scores.
If you are struggling with basic STEM classes now, you are going to continue struggling with higher STEM classes, especially AP ones unless you correct how you study now and fix that. You can't expect colleges to believe you can handle the rigor of difficult coursework if you can't excel at high school-level classes. Therefore, you need to change your study habits and do things differently.
My recommendation is not to worry about college but to worry about being a better high school student. Spend the summer learning to take better notes, complete problem sets, and repeat chapters you haven't mastered. STEM classes are additive so if you bomb the foundational coursework, it's really hard to get As in Pre-calc and Calculus if you think Algebra 2 is difficult. Same with Chemistry. AP Chem is much harder than regular chem.
Once you get your studying and grades on track, you can worry about what kind of colleges you should apply to. Worrying about USC now does nothing for you. Good luck.
