For some brief backgrounds, I attended a local community college for one year after high school (2022), and I will be attending WPI this fall (2023). I applied to this institution because it has a strong computer science program, emphasizes on collaboration, and is project-based learning. However, I have contemplated my enrollment here due to the high cost of attendance even after receiving aid. When compared to other universities with strong computer science program (Stanford, Harvard, Duke, to name a few), they seem to offer much better financial aid to students with my financial circumstance. Due to this reason, I plan to apply as a transfer for these institution.
As such, I would like to ask if I should list down financial aid as one of the reasons I'm applying to these universities? I'm grateful that WPI has offered me adequate financial aid, but the cost of attendance is still putting significant financial strains on my family. I plan to get a job to help support and alleviate the financial difficulty, but I would still much prefer to put my focus on academics and other school activities if possible.
tldr: Would you recommend me putting down financial aid as one of the main reasons for transferring into these top level universities. Thank you
