Honors Biology or Biomedical Biology?
Answered

I am a freshman in high school aiming for top schools in psychology and am hoping to become a psychiatrist.

This is where my dilemma comes in. My school does not offer AP courses (though I’ll still register to take the AP test’s and study for them) so honors is the second highest grade of class behind dual-credit classes. Which is why I want to take honors bio, however, biomedical biology fits my goal to go to medical school and taking the class would starts me on the Pre-nursing pathway at my school, where at the end of my senior year I’ll have college credits in Pre-nursing and field experience, not to mention my healthcare capstone.

What do you guys think? Which one should I do for my sophomore year?

I recommend the Healthcare Biomedical Biology. It is very important to take classes related to/preparing you for your career field. Not only does it provide clarity on what you specifically want to do but it also shows demonstrated interest and passion on your application. Colleges want to see early passion.

But I do see how taking honors biology could be beneficial, too. I don't think it would be bad to take honor bio but this healthcare class will put you on track for the nursing pathway.

I would recommend doing Honors Biology first and then if you have the option, do Biomedical Biology the year after. Biomedical Biology is generally harder than just general Biology so it will be good for you to have a base in Biology before you start Biomedical. You could also look into doing Dual Enrollment with a college/university of your choice.
