I got suspended in freshman yr for 1 day for fighint, this was my only disciplinary action and all of my other grades and extracirriculars are solid. How will this affect me and has anyone gotten into a good college w a similar situation?
Although having a suspension definitely isn't ideal, it won't mean an automatic rejection. I knew a kid at my high school that got into Cornell even though he's gotten a suspension before, and another kid I knew got into UCLA with one.
The good news is that the common app does not have a disciplinary history section anymore, meaning the only way colleges can find out about your suspension is by asking you directly. This gives you the opportunity to explain what happened, the circumstances leading up to the event, and what you learned from it. This is your best chance to show a school that you've learned from your mistake and grew from it.
