Hi! I'm from Canada and I was waitlisted at UCLA applying as a freshman for Fall 2024 entry. These were my programs:
Economics (Pre), B.A.
College of Letters and Science
Political Science (Pre), B.A.
College of Letters and Science
I was wondering if anyone might be able to offer any advice on what I can do to get off the waitlist, or if anyone has any ideas of my chances? Any and all advice would be appreciated. Thank you so much, and please let me know if I can provide any more information about me or my application!
I was not familiar with the waitlist process, so I got some suggestions from Ivy:
Being waitlisted can be a challenging experience, but there are steps you can take to improve your chances of being accepted off the waitlist:
Respond to the waitlist offer: Make sure you follow any instructions provided by the college to confirm your spot on the waitlist. This shows your continued interest in attending the school.
Write a letter of continued interest (LOCI): A LOCI is a letter you send to the admissions office expressing your enthusiasm for the college and updating them on any recent achievements or developments since submitting your application. Be genuine and specific about why you want to attend this particular school.
Update your application: If you have any significant updates since submitting your application, such as new awards, extracurricular activities, or coursework, be sure to inform the admissions office. This can help demonstrate your growth and continued commitment to your education.
Request a letter of recommendation: If you have a teacher, counselor, or mentor who can speak to your strengths and recent accomplishments, consider asking them to write an additional letter of recommendation to support your application.
Stay in touch with the admissions office: Politely and respectfully maintain contact with the admissions office to reinforce your interest in the school. Remember not to be too pushy or overbearing, as this can have a negative impact on your chances.
Have a backup plan: While you're working to improve your chances of being accepted off the waitlist, it's essential to have a backup plan. Make sure you accept an offer from another college by the decision deadline to secure your spot there.
Hope this helps and lmk if you have any questions!
