Do elite schools generally consider grades from freshman year?
Answered

I know that certain schools such as the UC schools and Stanford (just to name a few) don't consider your freshman year grades in your GPA. Do you know if other elite schools also do this?

They will see the freshman year final grades on your transcript. Whether each elite school actually places emphasis on your freshman year varies but generally I think that yes, they do consider them and use them to recalculate your GPA.

So to semi paraphrase crsgo the UCs are the exception not the rule. Are there likely some that drop freshman grades? Yes but it’s not the majority of them. I’d guesstimate 90% use freshman grades.

If you’d like a concrete answer just email the specific schools you want to apply to and ask. You can also just use this template

Hello!

I’m insert name and I am very intrigued with insert school name. I just wanted to ask do you consider highschool freshman grades in the admissions process?

Thank you and go insert mascot

Sincerely,

Hope this helps and please comment if you need clarification as I’d be happy to help clarify!
