Admissions Advice

What kind of schools should I aim for?

Hey! I'm a rising senior in the bay area hoping to get ideas on what schools I have a shot at.

Stats

GPA 3.94UW/4.14W

SAT: 1470 (730 math, 740 verbal), likely will raise to 1500 next time I take it

Rigor

6 APs and 2 honors by the end of senior year (AP Psychology, AP composition, AP literature, AP Calculus AB, AP Statistics, AP Biology, honors advanced algebra, honors pre-calculus)

4 on psych

3 on composition

ECs

- varsity cheerleader sophomore, junior, senior year

- cheer coach for elementary schoolers twice a week junior and senior year

- love for st judes club: volunteer hours from fundraisers, good chance at being vice president senior year

- dance internship (and dance only freshman year): had an internship as a dance teacher in freshman year where I taught ballet to a group of pre schoolers

- musical theatre: leads in a lot of plays freshman and sophomore year

- foreign exchange

- invited to and participated in a 2 week summer film making program at pepperdine

- part of my school's selective 2 year documentary filmmaking program; already filmed, edited, and produced 2 documentaries (2 more to come)

- 2 part time jobs sophomore, junior, and senior year

- soon to be writing for the youth law institute, hopefully gain ~50 volunteer hours from that

- going to do the 6-week mind4youth volunteer program (~30 hours from that) and the 4 week internship program

awards

- UCA All-American Cheerleader

i'm thinking of adding an online philosophy class at my local community college for fall semester, would this be a good idea? please give me advice on what i can do to improve my application and give me some good target schools to apply to. thanks!

I am not the greatest at building school lists, but I can offer my opinion about the online philosophy class, if you have the bandwith and are interested, DO IT! if you haven't already, talk to your HS guidance counselor because your school will likely pay for it :)

It depends on your major, but some generally good in-state choices are...

Safety: LMU, Chapman, Biola, USV, Pepperdine

Target: OC (There aren't many when your score is that high...)

Reach: USC, UCLA, UC Berkeley,
