ECs for film & creative writing?
Answered

i'm looking to major in film & creative writing, but i'm having trouble finding extracurriculars and programs to get involved in.

I've found a few internships except they're all at least an hour away from where I live, so it's not realistic. plus, there aren't a lot of opportunities for film at my school.

as far as creative writing goes, i write for fun, have written for the school newspaper, and also plan on submitting works to literary magazines to get published but was still wondering about more possible opportunities.

thanks!!

Assuming you're going into junior year, here are some ideas that you could take far!:

- Top essay contests... There are so many of these, I suggest researching or using Ivy to find ones that suit you best

- Self-publish, ideally >100pgs

- Become founder or editor-in-chief of a school publication

- Start a film club

- Start a creative writing club

- Get screened at a city/regional film festival

- Blogging, aim for a total of 50,000 words and a professional design

- Regularly volunteer at a more local area instead of interning (ie. library, community center), aim for 100hrs+ total on one organization

It'd be nice to find local or state specific programs or contests as well but doing 5 of these would greatly improve your chances at top universities. If that's not your goal, you're set with 3 of these as long as your stats match what the college is looking for.
