Is my YouTube journey a good college essay topic?
Answered

Hi everyone,

I'm considering writing my college essay as a montage essay that explores different times and aspects of my life and connects them to my values using my YouTube subscriptions as a thematic thread. The essay would cover topics like:

- Watching a primitive technology YouTuber when I was a kid, which led to my interest in engineering and how I tried to rebuild things they made in my backyard.

- Exploring my cultural heritage through watching a comedy YouTuber from where I immigrated.

- Learning to use technology, like YouTube, more responsibly throughout my life. For example, using it as a resource during a setback in my life and learning from others' experiences to find healthier ways to deal with my own setbacks.

Do you think this is a compelling and unique topic for a college essay?

I actually love this idea! It's super unique, and it introduces a passion of yours and how it's affected you in different areas of your life. I truly think it represents and portrays a part of you, which is what universities are looking for! My best friend wrote a similar-type essay but with music its different genres' presences throughout her life.

The most important thing with an essay like this is to make sure it's focused on YOUR personal development and how YOU experienced growth, and that YouTube was simply a catalyst and outlet for ideas, not the thing that makes you special or the forefront of your essay. Center your essay around how exactly YOU have changed and grown with specific examples, and how YOU have become the person YOU are.

Best of luck to you! Let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll try to answer them! <3

It is...actually very good...but it should be impactful...but don't let Youtube become the center of attention, the main thing should be your development and not Youtube...Youtube should merely be a tool for your improvement or personal growth.

I hope it helps!

Best of luck!
