Hello. I would need help with my extracurriculars. I'm going to be 9th grader. My stats aren't that bad, but can't choose 10 extracurriculars for next ten years. Could you help to choose them? Also I would like to have carrer with ifnance. This was my mind rain (I don't know how it's called in English).
1. Math's and history's olympiads, I'm kinda good at it.
2. Table tenis (I'm training for already 2 years and I believe I could get into first 100 out of
a thousand players in my years).
3. Robotics
4. Science fairs (I've done research and there is no such a thing in my country, but next year for a whole 10th grade I'll be in America.
5. Starting a bussines
6. Online college lessons.
7. Job internship.
8. Learning spanish and some japanese.
9. Running a few marathons (I can run. Also I realy like it).
10. Leader/captain/head of the class.
11. Handball team's captain (they're gonna be making a new team and I believe I could do it).
12. Volunteering (I wouldn't really like it).
13. Starting a social media account about history or something (I believe I could get a few thousand followers, depends on what platform).
14. Fundraising event.
The options I like: 1, 2, 4, 7, 10, 11, 12, 14
I highly recommend that you do these, all of these sound great!
The options that I don't like: 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 13
I don't like these because I think they are unrelated to Finance and will only take up time/not ideal.
Definitely show colleges your passion for finance. Don't choose ECs like it's a forced job, they should show who you are as a person. It's important to develop a character for yourself that you want the colleges to see.
Since you like finance, math is definitely important, so focus on your strengths. If there are a few hobbies you believe you will excel at, go for it.
ECs like job internships and starting a business will also prove your maturity, which colleges appreciate. However, make sure the goals you set are achievable, and don't do it if you know you will quit halfway.
I'm sure you've heard of "quality over quantity", so that's the same case here. Don't try to pile up a bunch of ECs to get to 10. Focus on your strengths, pursue your passions, make sure you get something out of them. That is much more important and definitely worth sacrificing a few numbers of less important ECs.
Good luck in 9th grade!
I don't know, i feel others shouldn't pick these things for you and you should follow what you truly desire the most. College-wise though i've heard to not spread out your extracurriculars too much and focus on on thing, maybe STEM, or leadership, or sports something like that?
