Admissions Advice

Is it better to use the personal essay prompts or use my own topic?
Answered

I'm starting to work on my college apps and my personal essay (through common app). Is it a better idea to use one of their basic prompts or write my own essay? The topic would be something I'm passionate about, but most likely wouldn't be related to the majors I would be applying for.

Use one of the common app prompts! I forgot where I read it, but some source with many admissions connections found out that the open prompt/prompt 7 had the lowest acceptance rate. I bet your essay would fit into one of common apps prompts. Don’t worry about it being related to your major as long as it shows growth/who you are as a person
