In 8th grade I took 3 classes that were assigned high school credit, they went on my transcript and were as follows:
Earth Science B+
Algebra I B+
Spanish 1 A
And this 8th grade year affected my GPA by .05 making it decrease to a 3.95 UW.
I know this may seem obsessive but in most accepted students to the schools I'm aiming for have a 4.0 GPA.
I am wondering how much this 8th grade slip in grades will affect my chances at universities like Harvard, Cornell, and Columbia.
My extracurriculars are above average I would think.
So let me know, do colleges really care about these two B+s I got in 8th grade?
Thanks,
Ian
Colleges look for the whole picture not just GPA and test scores. Your GPA shouldn't affect your application too much given that it is very close to a 4.0. Harvard typically accepts 3.9 -4.0. Your above-average extracurriculars will help and so will college essays. Colleges want to see how you will contribute to their campus in other ways besides academics.
