Is my essay topic cliche ?
Answered

I'm an international student applying from Bangladesh this year. Recently the country went through a political upheaval where a 15 year dictatorship was uprooted by a student led rebellion. I was at the heart of the action and got shot at a peaceful procession. My essay is centered around this story and how it made me confront my powerlessness and how I acknowledged my limitations. It explores themes of individual accountability and power of collective action. Is it cliche?

I definitely would not say that your topic is cliche. Considering you were at the heart of the rebellion and saw firsthand what happened, I would say this is a very strong essay topic. Especially if you are applying to US schools, this is a highly unusual topic that will help you stand out even more. Hope this helped!
