How much do colleges weigh Freshman grades?

I did not have a great start to high school. Nothing went wrong in my life or anything, it was just a big learning curve for me and I needed about a year or so to adjust and realize that I wanted to get into a top school. My freshman GPA at the end was a 3.75 (I know that’s not a bad gpa but no admissions officers are writing home about it). However, my sophomore year I had a year GPA of 4.314 and this year I’m on track for a 4.57 year GPA. This will only get my GPA up to around a 4.16, however. Did I throw any chance of getting into an Ivy? How much do these places really weigh freshman grades?

Your GPA is not everything...the application process includes so much more, including test scores, EC's, essay, coursework, and PASSION. Passion is a vital aspect often forgotten.

Since the application process is normally wholistic, I can't really call if you will get into an Ivy or not. So my advice is to continue doing your best and when it comes time to apply, give it your best shot. It can't hurt to try! Make sure you apply to a variety of schools (as far as competitiveness); make sure you apply to several schools well within your GPA/test score range so you are not option-less if the Ivy applications fall through. I wish you the best of luck and please lmk if you have any questions!
