Hi! I was just wondering if anyone has suggestions for me to improve my college application. I am a junior in highschool currently and I am shooting for BU or The Kings College. I just want to do everything I can to stand out. As of right now I have
4 Ap classes this year and 5 next
I have been working a part time job since I was 14 with decent hours.
I have a note of excellance from the state house
Currently 54 hours of community service and shooting for 100 hours
I have a 3.9 gpa and intend on maintaing it.
Ill also have a reccomendation letter from the state
Im worried about my sat score because the highest Ive gotten so far is 1090
My only worry is that I dont have a lot of after school activites except work because working takes up so much of my time.
Hi! It sounds like you're doing a lot of things right! Your course rigor and grades are good, as are your community service hours. Definitely don't feel discouraged if you're working and can't have a lot of other ECs. Admission officers review your application within the context of your environment, so if you have to work to support yourself or your family, definitely emphasize that on your applications. You can join a club or two if you have time, but it definitely isn't something that you have to do if working takes up all your time.
I'd encourage you to work on that SAT score (because you have plenty of time) and utilize free resources like Khan Academy, the official Bluebook tests, and youtube. If it's an option, take a mock ACT test and see if you do better on that. If you can't improve your test scores, it's not the end of the world, you can always apply test-optional.
