I want to go into med, specifically neuroscience, which I know is crazy competitive and filled with kids with insane stats. I'm currently a junior at a very competitive high school, so it is decently hard to get straight As. Half of the students go to state colleges while a good portion of the others go to T20s or other well ranked private universities.
Academically, my stats are:
GPA:
- UW: 3.3/4.0
- W: 3.7/4.0
- PSAT (10th grade): 1310
As you may notice, they aren't the best. I'm planning on taking the SAT and ACT to try and make up for my GPA. A lot of people told me that extracurriculars are equally as important, so here they are, listed below.
Extracurriculars:
- Waksman Student Scholars Program & Waksman Institute Summer Experience from Rutgers University: Research published in NCBI, application needed
- Future Problem Solvers at Kean University: Got to state level
- Girl Scouts: Finished Bronze Award and Silver Award, and have two President’s Volunteer Service Awards. My Silver Award involved in-person classes for educating youth in India and the US in topics in sciences using hands on methods, and finished 120.32 hours
- Library Volunteering: Finished 43 hours
- Hospital Volunteering: Finished 56 hours
- Violin: Have been playing since I was 7
I'll be doing my Gold Award project for Girl Scouts about chronic eczema, as that is a condition I have. If you guys have any recommendations of any extracurriculars I can get into that would boost my application, I would be really grateful.
Don't be too hard on yourself, there's still time to improve your grades and your resume is pretty full, so I think you should try to follow your dream!
