Gap Year

Hi guys! I am a freshman with enough credit hours to be a junior. I plan to apply to medical school in May 2025 and graduate in Spring 2026. I am considering taking a gap year, as I do not want to rush into medical school two years early. I also do not want medical school admissions to wonder if I am mature enough to survive in medical school. My concerns are:

1) Will I forget a lot of content during that gap year and struggle in my first year of medical school?

2) Besides time and money, does it hurt my chances in the next cycle to apply this cycle and not accept enrollment or not get in?

3) Do you think I should take a gap year at all?
