heyyy I'm a freshman with a 4.0. I only do one extracurricular, but since its competitive cheer it takes up much of my time. I really want to go to a top school like NYU. I'm just looking for advice on how to make my chances of going to a top school better. Also what extracurriculars do you all do and how busy are you?
Figure out what you want to apply as (what major/path) and build your "platform" around that. For example, if you wanted to apply as a biochemistry major, you could do a research project with a professor, get an internship in that field, and/or do HOSA. Don't waste your time joining school clubs with little to no impact. What matters is the scope of your ecs, whether it be something you did that's at college level, you win nationals, etc.
When it comes to cheer, you either need to find a way to make time for other ecs, get EXTREMELY good at cheer, or sacrifice that ec to get stronger ones.
In a nutshell:
- Get strong ecs with a large scope or impact
- Get a relevant internship/job
- Theme your application
- Maintain your GPA
- Study for the SAT or ACT early
Hiiii! Try to keep your GPA stable throughout the years since it is already high, and as for your extracurriculars, if you don't have time for any more, try to get really good at competitive cheer, participate in AND win national/regional competitions, and do community service. So like basically just work on strengthening your current profile if you cannot add onto it.
