SAT Score Submission

Hello! I have question regarding whether to submit SAT scores for schools or not. I have a 1440 and unfortunately it isn't the most gorgeous score for some of the schools I'm looking at. I had a chat with my counselor and she told me that I should submit my score only if it's above the median; she gave me an example that if the school I'm interested in has a middle 50% range of 1440-1530, the mid point would be around 1480 or 1490. If I have that score or above, I can send it in but if I have below the median, even if it is within the middle 50% range, I should not submit it. I'm a bit confused because I thought the mid 50% was the OK to submit area. My counselor is obviously super knowledgeable, but I just want a second opinion on whether or notit would be ok to send it to a school as such even if my score was below the median as long as it's within the first and third quartile. I appreciate any and all insights! Thank you!!

I recommend listening to your counselor's advice. You want to be a definite, "Yes, that's a great score!" not a "Hmm...we'll come back to that one; it's okay." The lower the score, the less likely they are to accepting you. You want your acceptance chances as high as possible. If there's a possiblity that the score may hurt and not help the application, then going test-optional is to your best interest.

Hope this helps and lmk if you have any questions!
