Grammar and sentence structre

I'm wondering if formal grammar rules should apply to everyday conversations and thoughts I use in my college essay. Side note: Would the use of British spelling be seen as incorrect when applying to American schools? I'm was born and raised in America but for some reason, I spell some words the british way (labour instead of labor)

Thanks

Not exactly. Because you are recognized as an international student and when English is required from you, it's not priced if its American or British so it's all English and its acceptable
