How important is the SAT essay?

I recently scored very highly on the SAT (1570). However I scored low on the essay with a 15/24. Will my score be marred by the essay or will colleges ignore it in favor of AP english grades and the application essays?

from what I've heard colleges don't care too much about the essay,, since they know it's not a great gauge of someone's writing ability. even the ultra-prestigious ones just want to see an average-ish score. that's anywhere between a 14-16 for most places, so you should be fine.

That score is really good, congrats! And I think you'll be ok. Especially if you have good AP english grades or write strong application essays. Your SAT score is high enough where schools will be looking at the rest of your application anyways so I would try not to worry too much
