Online Volunteering?

Hi,

I am currently a junior in high school and want to pursue a BS/MD program. Because of Covid-19 finding medically related volunteer opportunities very hard. I found a few websites that allow me to sent messages and letters of encouragement to Covid-19 patients and children with cancer. Would colleges count this as medical volunteering?

You can try to do online shadowing some colleges will count it since the pandemic we can’t really go in hospitals. There’s this YouTube channel called club med it’s an online shadowing program after each host you need to send them a summary to show that you were there. Reach out to hospitals or programs to see if you intern during the summer. I hope this helped. xoxo

Ok so I did something similar to what you are describing. Although I received 4 hours for it after handwriting eight page long letters until my hand felt cramped, you don't really do much work. Like literally, it doesn't take time to do that kind of stuff imo. That's why I didn't include it in my common app either because it's literally only 4 hours and I didn't really gain or care much about it. I don't consider it medical volunteering but rather social volunteering if that is a thing.
