I'm currently a Junior and I turned 16 after everything shut down, so I didn't get a chance to start volunteering at any of the places I was considering volunteering at. Now everything is still shut down, and I was wondering what a good amount of volunteer hours to put on my resume would be? I was also wondering if anyone had recommendations for online places to volunteer since I don't leave the house.
Thank you!
Is taking 55 hours of community service in high school good for college admission
Colleges (especially prestigious ones) really want to see you put in effort into your community. As a rough guideline, 50 to 200 hours is going to sound impressive to colleges and show that you are committed to helping your community. Animal shelters, hospitals, elderly homes, and food banks are great places.
If you can't get out of the house, try to see if your school allows donating food or clothing for hours like many other schools do. You can try doing online tutoring for free, you can create a youtube channel and do tutoring in one of your strengths like math or coding. Catchafire, AmnestyBorders, Translators without borders, Dosomething.org, and UNV all offer online volunteering. A common theme will be that you have to put in an effort to see where you can find these hours.
However with covid being the main issue, schools will likely be more lenient on community service hours.
Hope this helped.
To keep this community safe and supportive:
hi! when i was in high school a couple years ago they had recommended to us to do anywhere from 50 hours-200 hours depending on our schedules and what not. 50 is definatley a good number to do, or you could do 75.
as for recommendations for online places, i would definatly check this site out
