So there is this question which I need to write an essay about:
At MIT, we bring people together to better the lives of others. MIT students work to improve their communities in different ways, from tackling the world’s biggest challenges to being a good friend. Describe one way in which you have contributed to your community, whether in your family, the classroom, your neighborhood, etc. (200-250 words)
Would it be appropriate if I mentioned that I've been feeding/sheltering the poor animals I see on the street? Because in the country I live in, there are tons of street animals than those who live in shelters/houses. I do not have a social solidarity project background or something like that but ever since I was a little kid I've been taking care of the animals I have seen injured and in a bad health condition on the street or I simply feed them when I see one not just because I pity them also for the affection I feel towards them. I also adopted a cat about a year ago that I saw on my grandmother's neighborhood. If this is not suitable for the topic, I would be happy If you make simple suggestions for me!
Personally, I think that is a great topic to write your essay about. It helps humanize you, showing your kindness and compassion you have toward these animals (and also presumably toward other people). Just make sure you connect your story back to answer the question they're asking, "how have you contributed to your community?" What impact has your sheltering of these animals had on your community? However, if you don't feel like you can answer that question through your essay, then pick a different topic.
To keep this community safe and supportive:
Thanks for your answer! You definitely made a point, I should make connections between this topic and contribution it made to my community. I am going to consider your suggestions. Again, thank you so much.
