How is Wisconsin a safety?

On this website it says Wisconsin is a safety. I have been waitlisted. Why do they belive it would be a saftey to get into a top 50 school especially when applying to biomedical engineering? Is there anyway to increase chance to get accepted and get out of waitlist?

Even a safety isn't a guarantee it just means compared to other applicants of your demographic you had a high shot but that doesn't factor in essays recommendation letters etc also i don't know if the system factored in intended major.

that being said you might want to ask an admission peson at UoW and probe into why you were waitlisted

additionally this year they might have had a whole bunch of 10/10 applicants and this year is an outlier

What did you put for ECs in the system? It can be tough to accurately determine the tier of your ECs and if you put them higher than what they should've been it probably bumped up your chances. You should start writing a letter of continued interest to increase the odds of getting off the waitlist as much as possible.
