Merit scholarships are scholarships based on a student's merit, or their GPA, SAT/ACT scores, AP scores, extracurricular activities/achievements, and things of that nature. They are not based on your need for financial aid. There are some scholarships that are considered merit scholarships but will only be awarded to students who demonstrate financial need, which are different.
