Common Application: Letter of Recommendation
Answered

When applying to my colleges, it says that I need a Letter of Recommendation from my school Guidance Counselor, but she's on vacation. I contacted her through email and got a reply saying she would be back on January 5th, after the deadline. What do I exactly do? Can I still submit my application?

Yes, you can still submit. Most colleges do not need your letters of recommendation by the deadline, as long as they are in within a few days after the deadline, so you should be fine. You can look on the college's website to double check or if your school uses Naviance, you should be able to check there too. You should get an email with a link to your portal after submitting your application and you be able to track what that college has received, including your letter of rec. Sometimes there is also a form to update the admissions committee if something is going to be a bit later than a few days. If it's January 5th, you should be absolutely fine, since most schools are on winter break, anyways :)
