I have been on the varsity Cheerleading team every year that i have been at my school and i wasnt sure if thats impressive and helpful or not.
A longer commitment (4 year vs 1-3) is better since well, it shows dedication and interest, and you being on the varsity Cheerleading team is impressive because of the time-management, teamwork, etc needed. To be honest, commitment and participating in any extracurricular activity can be helpful.

Can't argue with the answer. In addition what I found is the more selective the school the more selective they want your EC's to be. School level involvement is ok, state level involvement is good, national level is excellent. Think like school cheerleading team vs. state level all-star team member or awards like National Merit Scholar vs school honor roll. Longer involvement is good but what impact did you have over that time. Participating is not as good as improving or creating.
