Do colleges pay attention to a student's first semester grade on their final transcript?

Yes. Definitely.

Your HS counselor is required to submit your mid-year transcript to the colleges you have applied to by Mid February.

Also, keep in mind that some colleges will also want to see your final grades as well even after you have paid your May 1 deposit.

This is to ensure that you haven't taken your "foot off the gas completely and coasted into graduation".

My parents have friends whose kids slacked off and got Ds their final semester and their acceptance to UCLA was rescinded. They ended up having to go to community college. And that sidelined whatever career plans they had as well.

Good luck. You come this far and there are only like 4 months to go.
